Copyright and Licensing

Copyright

Cortex (Innovation and Discovery) respects the intellectual property rights of authors and is committed to maintaining transparent and ethical publishing practices.

Unless otherwise stated for a specific publication, copyright remains with the author(s). Authors retain the right to use, share, and disseminate their published work in accordance with the applicable license and the policies of the journal or book series.

By submitting a manuscript to a Cortex publication, authors confirm that:

  • The submitted work is original and has not been published elsewhere in substantially the same form.
  • The manuscript does not infringe upon the copyright or other intellectual property rights of any third party.
  • The authors have obtained appropriate permission for any copyrighted material reproduced in the manuscript.
  • All authors have approved the submitted and final versions of the work.
  • The work complies with the ethical and publication policies of the relevant Cortex journal or book.

Open Access and Licensing

Cortex publications are intended to provide readers with broad and convenient access to scholarly research. Journal articles published by Cortex are made available through an open-access model, subject to the licensing terms specified on the individual journal or article page.

Where a Creative Commons license is applied, the specific license will be clearly displayed with the published article and will determine how the work may be reused, shared, or adapted.

Readers should refer to the license associated with each individual publication before reusing, adapting, or redistributing published material.

Author Rights

Authors may use their published work for legitimate academic and scholarly purposes, including:

  • Sharing the published article through personal or institutional platforms, subject to the applicable license.
  • Including the work in a thesis or dissertation.
  • Depositing the work in an institutional or subject repository where permitted by the applicable license.
  • Using the work for teaching, research, and academic presentations.
  • Linking to the official published version of the article.

Authors should acknowledge the original publication and provide an appropriate citation whenever the published work is reused.

Third-Party Material

Authors are responsible for securing permission to reproduce copyrighted material belonging to third parties, including figures, photographs, tables, datasets, or substantial portions of previously published material, where such permission is required.

Cortex does not assume responsibility for unauthorized use of third-party copyrighted material submitted by authors.

Copyright and Books

For books and edited volumes published by Cortex, copyright and licensing arrangements will be specified in the applicable book publishing agreement and publication information.

Individual chapters may be subject to the terms agreed between the author(s), editor(s), and Cortex. The applicable copyright and licensing information will be clearly stated in the published book or chapter.
