DOI & Metadata
Cortex (Innovation and Discovery) is committed to providing accurate, consistent, and persistent publication information to support the identification, discovery, citation, and long-term accessibility of scholarly work.
Digital Object Identifier (DOI)
Where DOI registration is available for a Cortex publication, a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is assigned to provide a persistent and unique identifier for the published work.
A DOI provides a stable way to identify and cite an article, chapter, or other eligible scholarly publication, even if the location of the content on the website changes.
Authors are encouraged to use the DOI when citing their published work and when sharing their publications through academic profiles, institutional repositories, and scholarly platforms.
DOI Registration
DOIs are registered through the applicable DOI registration agency and are associated with structured bibliographic metadata.
Once registered, the DOI is linked to the official publication record and can be used to facilitate persistent citation and discovery.
DOI assignment and registration are subject to the applicable requirements of the DOI registration agency and the publication type.
Publication Metadata
Cortex maintains structured metadata for its scholarly publications. Depending on the publication type, metadata may include:
-
Title of the article or chapter
-
Author names
-
Author affiliations
-
ORCID iDs, where available
-
Abstract
-
Keywords
-
Journal or book title
-
Volume, issue, and publication date, where applicable
-
Page or article information
-
DOI
-
References and citation information
Accurate metadata helps scholarly databases, discovery services, libraries, repositories, and academic platforms identify and display publications correctly.
Metadata Accuracy
Cortex makes reasonable efforts to ensure that publication metadata is accurate and complete.
Authors should carefully verify their names, affiliations, ORCID iDs, article title, abstract, keywords, and other bibliographic information during submission and proof stages.
Errors identified after publication should be reported to the editorial or publishing team so that the publication record can be reviewed and corrected where appropriate.
DOI and Indexing
A DOI is a persistent identifier for a publication. DOI assignment should not be interpreted as evidence of indexing in a particular database or abstracting service.
Indexing and abstracting services independently determine whether publications meet their respective inclusion requirements.
Citation and Linking
Authors and readers are encouraged to cite the official published version of a Cortex article or chapter using its DOI where available.
The DOI can also help establish a persistent link between the publication and its bibliographic record, supporting accurate citation and scholarly discovery.
Commitment to Persistent Scholarly Records
Cortex aims to maintain reliable publication records and accurate metadata throughout the lifecycle of its publications. DOI and metadata practices form an important part of Cortex's commitment to discoverability, citation integrity, and responsible scholarly publishing.
