ORCID for Authors

Cortex (Innovation and Discovery) encourages authors to use an ORCID iD (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) to ensure accurate identification and attribution of their scholarly work.

What is ORCID?

ORCID provides researchers with a unique, persistent digital identifier that distinguishes them from other researchers with similar or identical names. An ORCID iD remains associated with the researcher throughout their academic and professional career, including when their name, institution, or affiliation changes.

Benefits for Authors

Using an ORCID iD can help authors:

  • Ensure their publications are correctly attributed to them.

  • Distinguish their work from that of researchers with similar names.

  • Maintain a consistent scholarly identity across different publications and research systems.

  • Reduce errors in author names, affiliations, and publication records.

  • Facilitate linking of publications and research activities to their ORCID profile.

ORCID and Manuscript Submission

Authors are encouraged to provide their ORCID iD during manuscript submission where the submission system permits. Authors should use their own ORCID iD and ensure that the information associated with their ORCID record is accurate and up to date.

Where applicable, Cortex may display verified ORCID iDs alongside author information on published articles and may include them in publication metadata submitted to relevant scholarly services.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that the correct ORCID iD is associated with their name and publication.

How to Obtain an ORCID iD

ORCID registration is free. Authors can create an ORCID iD through the official ORCID website and use it as their persistent researcher identifier.

Cortex encourages authors to connect their ORCID iD with their submission and publication records whenever this functionality is available.
